Hayley and Sean enjoyed a fabulous day here at The Orangery on 16 April when they said their “I do’s” The lovely couple shared their story with us……
“We very first met when Sean was booked to DJ at my 18th birthday party, I remember telling my sister at the time that I thought the DJ was good looking.
Then about a year later we met again when I was out one night in Zens and Sean was the DJ there. We always got on so well & constantly laughed when we were together but both already in relationships nothing happened.
After 5 years of being friends and always talking and meeting up through friends we became a couple and since then it’s been non stop. We now have our two beautiful girls, Molly and Rose and bought our house soon after Molly was born.
I really wasn’t expecting Sean to propose when he did. It was just after Christmas and he had surprised me leading up to Christmas Day giving me a special present the 12 days leading up to Christmas. Some were presents I have said I wanted, and some were little things he had arranged that just reminded him of me or things we had done in the past. Then on December 27th, we were at his mums house, he said he had to go home (5 min drive from there) to get something. I got a phone call from him saying that we had a leak in our kitchen and I had to get home. So I rushed home and when I walked to the front door it was already open. When I waked into the living room it was filled with candles, and they were leading all the way up the staircase too. He had all of our favourite songs playing and he walked into the room in a suit with 2 glasses of champagne. It still didn’t cross my mind that he was going to propose!! He was saying about our relationship and how much he loved me and he got down on one knee – it still didn’t click for me even then! Then he asked me to marry him!!! Obviously I said yes! I was so shocked, I always knew we would get married but just didn’t expect it then at all!!!
Now, what can I say about the orangery. We had been to look at quite a few venues and there was just something not quite right with each one and I started to feel a bit down about it. I said to Sean that we should hold off looking for a while. Then one Saturday night he was booked to DJ at a wedding at the Orangery. He rang me after he had been there to set up his equipment and was telling me how beautiful it was and that we need to go and view it for ourselves. I honestly wasn’t excited as I didn’t think I’d ever find somewhere that we both loved and that had everything we wanted.
We booked to go to view it and we met with Jo. I can’t tell you how quickly I fell in love with the venue, the people, the grounds. I remember walking around thinking this can’t actually be somewhere we can get married! Sean had already said to me that he loved the venue that much that if I loved it, then we can book it there and then. I could not fault anything about it. Even the day that we went which was cold and overcast it was amazingly beautiful. So we did just as we said and chose our date and booked to get married and have our reception at the Orangery!
It’s now been almost a month since our wedding and I’m still grinning from ear to ear!!! Everyone on the day were second to none and I will love them forever for everything they did to make our wedding the most beautiful day we could ever have wished for. I can’t wait to see the pictures from our wedding and we are definitely going to sneak back to the orangery soon 🙂 ”
What a wonderful story! The team here would love to welcome you both back one day and wish you all the happiness in the world as start your new adventures!

Ask the expert
During a recent “Ask the expert” feature, Jill gave the following advice to couples…..
Flowers are the beautiful and the vital link that joins all the elements of your wedding together. The designs will be individually crafted to tell your story with their shape, colour and texture. A fantastic variety of flowers and foliages are available year round and can be used to interpret and link your theme and style.
As well as designs for the bride and bridesmaids the link will continue through to the buttonholes and corsages. At the venue the theme continues with flowers to dress the aisle and bridge. Inside the Orangery, the floral designs will set the theme, bold and dramatic, soft and romantic, classical elegance, whatever you wish for, their power is immense! They will bring the room to life and be the perfect finishing touch to a beautifully laid table and dressed chairs.
Quality of the flowers and workmanship is essential. An experienced florist will have a full and varied portfolio of good quality images of work to show you. During an initial consultation it is helpful, but not essential, if you have with you a swatch of the colours and dress styles, pictures / cuttings or mood board of any colours/ theme you wish to include. This will help to create a visual picture of requirements which can be built upon during the months leading up to your wedding during further consultations.
Not to worry if your knowledge of flowers is minimal, your florist will have images to show you initially. Closer to the wedding stems of your chosen flowers can be made available for you to view.
Tips for choosing your wedding florist
- Speak to a professional – they will help and advise you with choices.
- Are they familiar with and recommended by your venue?
- Do they come with any personal recommendations?
- Arrange a meeting to view their portfolio and discuss requirements.
- Are they prepared to work with you and go the extra mile?
- Are they flexible and can think outside the box.
- See them at work, setting up a wedding or at a wedding show – look carefully at the quality and finish of the designs.
- Expect a detail quotation of the costs involved.
- If you like them – book them! – before someone else does.
